At Millbrook Manor, we recognise that meaningful activity is an important part of everyday life. Our activities programme offers a wide variety of opportunities for residents to socialise, stay active, enjoy familiar interests and discover new experiences. Activities can be adapted to individual preferences, abilities and levels of participation.
Bingo is played weekly on specialised hard boards. Games are played at a relaxed pace, with staff assistance available when needed. Residents can enjoy the fun, social interaction and, of course, the prizes.
Chair-based exercises are tailored to suit most residents, using props such as foam batons, soft balls and hula hoops. Exercises are often done to music, allowing everyone to sing along while moving. Our facilitators are trained in Care Pals and HEPA activities.
Residents can join group sessions or enjoy one-to-one card games if they prefer something quieter. Other activities include general knowledge quizzes, name-the- sound games and classic board games.
Our monthly Residents Meeting provides an opportunity for residents to share thoughts, ideas and suggestions about daily life in the home. Topics can include activities, menu choices, events and other matters residents wish to raise.
Local musicians and choirs regularly provide entertainment. Residents can enjoy singing, dancing and chair-based dancing with staff support. Music can also encourage reminiscence, movement and enjoyment.
Weekly Mass is held in our Oratory for residents and family members who wish to attend, with Holy Communion also distributed weekly. Local ministers of different faiths visit residents regularly. A weekly Rosary group is also available for those interested.
Residents make cards and decorations for occasions such as Valentine's Day, Easter and Christmas. Activities include flower arranging and crocheting. Aqua painting kits, sensory activities and art therapy classes can also support residents with limited dexterity or dementia. Artwork is displayed throughout the building.
This sensory-based activity is designed for residents with advanced dementia. It provides a relaxed setting for communication and interaction through music, nature, scents and other sensory experiences. Residents are also encouraged to participate in simple activities such as folding, rolling, sorting and polishing.
Baking groups are held regularly, with recipes selected so residents can participate in simple tasks such as mixing, sieving and beating. These sessions encourage active participation and provide opportunities to enjoy familiar activities.
When weather permits, residents are encouraged to take part in gardening activities such as weeding, planting and watering flowers and plants. Residents may also participate in other suitable outdoor tasks.
Our in-house salon provides a welcoming space for residents to enjoy hairdressing and personal grooming. Fridays are often a lively time in the salon, giving residents an opportunity to chat and socialise.
Staff provide nail and hand care, including hand massage, manicures and foot spas. These activities can provide comfort, relaxation and opportunities for residents to enjoy some personal attention.
Reminiscence activities encourage residents to share memories and stories. We use magazines, picture books, poetry, DVDs and other familiar materials to encourage conversation. Life histories help staff understand each resident's individual interests and experiences.
Residents have access to daily newspapers, the weekly local paper, Ireland's Own and other magazines. Daily discussion groups provide opportunities to talk about headlines and articles of interest.
Residents can take part in suitable everyday household activities that encourage participation and independence. We also use CiΓΊnas, a programme from Engaging Dementia, featuring familiar hymns, prayers and rosaries.
Students from local schools visit regularly to provide music, entertainment and conversation and to take part in joint projects with residents. Residents also enjoy visits from children of staff members.
Imagination Gym is a relaxation activity that provides a calm space where residents can use their imagination through a gentle approach to reminiscence. Sessions are facilitated by trained activity therapists and guided by audio, with Light Touch therapy also used.
This programme uses music, rhythm and reminiscence to encourage communication and self-expression. Repetition and familiar approaches help residents interact and express themselves in a safe environment. Sessions are carried out by trained facilitators.
A monthly reflexology day is available by appointment with a qualified reflexologist. Places are offered on a rotating basis to residents who wish to participate.
In-house events are organised throughout the year, including seasonal celebrations, Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, BBQs, afternoon teas, Halloween activities, fundraising events, Christmas celebrations and educational events.
Outings can include lunches at local eateries, concerts, GAA games and shopping trips. Residents may also visit places of interest and local events. Family members can accompany residents on organised outings where appropriate, while one-to-one outings and walks may also take place.
The Mobile Library gives residents the opportunity to borrow and exchange books without leaving the home. The collection includes novels, biographies, large-print books and magazines. Residents can request specific titles or authors, with assistance available when needed.
Peg Therapy involves sorting and placing colourful pegs, supporting focus, coordination and hand strength in a fun activity. Doll Therapy can provide comfort and reassurance, particularly for residents living with dementia. Both activities promote engagement and comfort.
One-to-one activity sessions are tailored to each resident's preferences, needs and abilities. Sessions may include arts and crafts, music, reading, conversation, light exercise and movement. Activities are adjusted to support participation, independence and well-being.
Residents can stay connected with family and friends through WhatsApp video calls using the home's tablet or mobile device. Staff can assist with setting up calls, helping residents enjoy regular face-to-face contact with loved ones wherever they are.
